The city coroner, Dr. Youl, held an inquest on Monday at the morgue on the body of Franz Vogel, aged 52 years, a weaver. Deceased was out of work, and when told to remain here instead of going to Sydney for work on Friday morning, got very excited and said the speaker would hear something of him. He left the hotel at which he stopped at about half-past 12 on Friday afternoon, and was found dead in the scrub on the Yarra bank on Saturday morning. All the particulars were published in Monday's paper. Dr. Neild made a post mortem examination, and found arsenic in the stomach. He believed the arsenic caused death. There was no evidence as to the deceased having bought arsenic, and he did not drink, but was very low spirited. The jury found that deceased poisoned himself while of unsouud mind. - Published Wed 29 Nov 1871, Page 1, INQUESTS.

FOUND DEAD IN THE SCRUB. About half-past 10 this morning, as Constable Gettings was on duty, on Prince's Bridge, he was informed that the dead body of a man was lying in the scrub behind Brander's ferry. He proceeded to the place, and had the body removed to the morgue. The body was that of a man - about fifty years of age, and was dressed in a black frock coat, black vest, striped
with a blue bar, brown tweed trousers, black silk necktie, with blue stripe blucher boots with iron toes, and an alpine felt hat. He is supposed to be a German, as documents written in German were lying in the scrub, close to the body, as well as some photographs. The name on the documents is Herbert Franz Vogel. One of the documents bears the direction of Dr. C. Mueeke 51 and 53 Flinders-lane west. A directed envelope, bearing the name of Mr. Schroder, Castlemaine hotel, Little Bourke-street, was also amongst the papers found. No property was found on the body, and there is every reason to believe that the deceased had been robbed. An inquest will be held in due course. - Published Sat 18 Nov 1871, Page 2
SUICIDE IN THE SCRUB. Dr. Youl held an inquest to- day at the Morgue on the body of Franz Vogel, a German, aged fifty-two years. It appears that the deceased, a weaver, came from New Zealand, and was for a short time in the service of Mr. L. Schraeder, merchant, Little Collins-street. Lately he had been out of employment, and it seems it preyed on his mind, and he resolved to destroy himself. It is supposed that he procured some arsenic, and went to the scrub, near Brander's Ferry, where he destroyed himself. The jury found a verdict that the deceased committed suicide by poisoning himself with arsenic, while of unsound mind. - Published Mon 20 Nov 1871, Page 3
