Details of the Gothic and the 1897 voyage to New Zealand. Ernest Edwin RUSHBROOKE, his wife Ellen Sarah WRIGHT and their six children migrated to New Zealand on the steamship Gothic in 1897. Mary Alice WRIGHT and James George WRIGHT, Ellen's sister and brother, also traveled to New Zealand on the voyage.

1913 Matawai Bush Fires, near Gisborne, NZ
Newspaper account of bush fires in Matawai are of interest to the Korte family because they occurred on the wedding day of Fred Korte and Elizabeth Redpath. Fred's two brothers Henry and Chris were unable to attend the wedding because they were attempting to prevent Fred's newly built cottage from burning down. The cottage survived the fire.

Matawai School, in Matawai near Gisborne on the East Coast of the North Island, held a 50 year Jubilee in 1958. This page has extracts from the souvenir publication produced for the Jubilee. Matawai School is of interest to my family; my mother and grandmother both teaching there, and family members attending. My grandmother, Elizabeth Korte (nee Redpath) was the first teacher at Matawai School in 1908.

The 1982 attempt by Neil Ian ROBERTS to destroy the Wanganui Computer Centre because of concerns that New Zealand would become a "police state" with the Computer Center as it's figurehead. He committed suicide with a bomb attempting to destroy the Center.
