Notes |
OBITUARY The death last week of Mr John Carlson of lower Hunter Road, removed a respected and worthy settler. He was almost the last of the early pioneers who made a settlement on what was known as the Ngaere block. The late Mr Carlson was born in Sweden in 1847, and emigrated to Australia in 1871. He came to Taranaki in 1881. When he came to the Eltham district he settled on land on the Lower Hunter Road and made a home right in the midst of a dense forest. Mr Carlson is survived by a grown up family of five sons and two daughters, and four of his sons fought in the European war.
