Feb 28, 1996. pg. 11. Death 'easily avoidable'. THE death of a Johnsonville man in an industrial accident last year could have been avoided, Wellington coroner Erika Kremic said yesterday. Ian Spurdle Shepherd, 53, was killed on August 28 while working at an engineering plant in Newtown. Mr Shepherd, who was co-owner of the business, was clearing and restacking melteca customwood at 9.30am, when a stack of the wood fell, killing him.
