Welcome America
(By Coralie Stanley McKellar.)
Like grey mice stealing line on line
You came upon the silver sea.
To us you brought America. You're
showing us America,
Big, wonderful America!
That country of the free.
You foamed right into Watson's Bay.
Your monsters trumpeted advance;
Your spangled banner, flung afar,
to show us who and what you are.
Welcome, you lads from "over thar"
We're glad you took the chance.
Our sirens toot, our whistles scream.
Our shores have piled you host on host.
No. 'scrapers here to meet your eye.
No mammoth marvels to decry
But "welcome" flung from shore to sky!
And cheers from coast to coast.
You landed on our harbour side.
You've heard about "our 'arbour?"
Well,
We've heard a lot about you, too!
Your Woolworth Tower, "Fifth Avenoo."
Come, boys, give Aussie her just due.
This "'arbour" rings the bell!
Hello! It's "Bo," and "Say, old bean,"
"Remember over there we met?"
It's "Atta Baby, look who's here!"
And "Merry, Pickford's double, clear!",
"Gee whiz, we chew the mint called Spear!"
The latest "Ford's a bet!"
Then up our streets you blazed your bands.
Came sailor, soldier, one and all.
For here's our hand to every one.
From North, from South, to every one!
Well met, America; well done!
We're glad you came to call!
