1896, Obituary.
Sidney RICARDO died in 1896.
Obituary.
Mr. Sydney Ricardo, an ex J.P., was at one time a wealthy man, but he died in comparative poverty. He formerly owned the magnificent property known as Dowd's Estate. At a time when vegetables were bringing a high price, he designed and attempted to carry out an enormous scheme of irrigation in association with this estate. Very large sums of money were expended in building a large reservoir and
other works; but, alas, the price of cabbages fell, floods swept down the Yarra, and he speedily lost the whole of his fortune.
