Memorial - Daniel Watkins
Daniel Watkins, MRCS LCA, born Westwell Kent, England 21 November 1791, died Akaroa, New Zealand 21 November 1882. Surgeon-Superintendent S.S. Cressy, one of the famous "First four Ships". In 1850 he made his home in Akaroa, being its first Doctor and registrar of births, deaths and marriages. His wife Julia Maria Sloane, died 14 November 1851. She lies in Akaroa's French Cemetery. A generous benefactor to the people and town of Akaroa in it's formative years - presenting land for the first Anglican Church and the Literary Institute.

Notes: Akaroa Anglican Cemetery opened in 1857 and is reaching capacity. In 2019 the cemetery is now full except for burial in pre-purchased plots or second interments. The cemetery is located on an area of flat to rolling hillside adjacent to the Garden of T?ne overlooking Akaroa Harbour.
